25 Jul Politico: PBM lobby defends rebates in letter to Price
Pharmaceutical Care Management Association president Mark Merritt told Price that: 1) Most payers elect to receive 90 percent of rebates negotiated by PBMs. 2) An increasing number of payers require PBMs to give them all of the rebates. 3) Some insurers choose to use rebate money to lower premiums rather than reduce individual patient out-of-pocket costs. 4) Some payers are unable to do “point-of-sale” rebates for patients at the pharmacy counter, because manufacturers don’t pay rebates until months after a drug is dispensed.
